Hi, my name is Ken. I live in the Salt Lake City area with my wife, Sandy. We moved here in the summer of 2013 to be near our daughter, Jenny, her husband Thomas and three of our six grandkids; the other three live in Arizona with my son Matt and his wife Regina. We came here from the state of Washington, and are enjoying ourselves immensely. Though as a scuba diver, I miss the Puget Sound and Washington, too.
My background is that of an synthetic organic chemist, and it is this background combined with my love of criticsm that has prompted me (plus a nudge from my blogger daughter, Jenny) to write this blog. It is in my nature to look at things (organic molecules or movies) and deconstruct them. I know not everyone is in love with this kind of approach, but sorry, it's the way I'm wired.
So, with this kind of deconstructionist point of view in mind, I am going to try to write reviews for movies (initially), and later on books and possibly TV shows. I will generally choose entertainment that I am already interested in, so my reviews may well be on the positive side; I am sure a few clunkers will find their way in. I tend to focus on one or two chief attributes to the movie, and one or two deficits. I won't write a synopsis of the movie, partly to avoid giving away the story line, but also to really focus on the parts (again with the parts) of the movie that caught my eye.
I don't think my views will be expressed in a manner that will be offensive to anyone. If you would like to talk about a movie with me, please fire away with your comments. I'd love to interact with you, especially with a movie that also excited me.
Lastly, to give you an idea of the movies I love, here are some recent moveis I thought were all five stars - and I won't be giving five stars very often: Cloud Atlas, Lincoln, Life of Pi.
